Bryson Tiller - A N N I V E R S A R Y
Bryson Tiller’s third studio album is here and all I can say is WOW! The new album is called Anniversary and it dropped exactly 5 years after the release of Trapsoul, so its title is very fitting. In a way, it was a nice gift to his fans to celebrate the success of Trapsoul.
Anniversary was sweet on the first listen and the more I listen to it, the more I fall in love with it. With every listen, I fall in love with something new. This 10-track album gives off the best Trapsoul vibes and more. Although I had accepted that we may never get another Trapsoul, this new album has me thinking otherwise. It’s almost just as great as Trapsoul if you ask me. Of course it's not on the exact same level as Trapsoul, but it has the potential to sit a few seats away from Trapsoul. Where Trapsoul was a 10/10, Anniversary is a strong 8/10.
For many people, what stood out to them the most about this album is the feature with Drake, as this is the first studio album where Tiller has had a feature. However, I personally don't think that this feature added or reduced the quality of the album. Don’t get me wrong, the song with Drake definitely bangs, but the album would still be good with or without the feature. Bryson Tiller's just one of those artists who doesn't need features and I think that's mainly because he's able to rap and sing very well.
Overall, listening to Anniversary reminded me of the Bryson Tiller sound I fell in love with 5 years ago. I had a feeling it would be decent album after hearing the single Inhale, but I didn’t expect it to be this good!
I made sure I didn’t set my expectations too high as I had learnt my lesson from True to Self, which wasn’t entirely bad but wasn’t as memorable as Trapsoul. However, it’s fair to say that Anniversary exceeded my expectations completely!
He took his time with Anniversary and it’s evident when you listen to it. I don’t have a favourite track just yet, but so far, my top 2 have to be Always Forever and I’m Ready For You.
All in all, it’s a solid album with no skips. Not sure when the next one will drop, but I hope Tiller takes as much time as he needs so he can give us another well made album.
